2 Day Air Brakes Course

Yup, that's right - Driver (Len) needs to take a 2 day (all day) air brakes course for the motor home.

I will finish the final packing while he is busy learning and passing this course.

I have created all these crazy check lists...yes I most probably have gone a little crazy, but our trip is long, and we need to be organized.  Okay that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Like at Christmas time, I have been making my lists, and I will for sure be checking them twice, to make sure I have not forgot anything.  I know we all probably say, "if we forgot something, no worried we'll buy it".  This is true, but I always find it great to exercise for my old memory to try to remember to bring it the first time around.

Just waiting for my king's course...and we'll be off, towards the sunshine.  YAHOO - imagine lots and lots, and did I say lots of sunshine.  I'm dreaming of it already.

Enough of this rain! I hope not to see rain for some time.

Here's to keepin' dry.

You keep in touch, and we'll keep in touch.

Planning Stages

Len and I are gearing up for our trip.  We are reviewing the final plans for this trip.  Gathering maps, making our route and making sure we have some warm clothes put aside, as it's cold out there!

We had ordered a winter cover for our motor home and it has arrived.  We are very excited to have this until the storage unit is build to house the Merryacht during the winter months.

Please send us an email - and a meet up spot to : merryacht2@gmail.com.

Talk to you soon.

On the road....

Okay, let's just start by saying when the bug hits the bug hits... fun and adventure on the road....it's all too exciting...

We took this picture through the wind shield of the MH while on our way to bring her home in October 2012 from California.  When you sit this high up, things do have a different perspective.

We had just purchased our 38 foot Motor Home.  Yikes it's big and beautiful and we are like two kids who just hit a candy store!  It's HUGE actually!  We are trilled and very excited.

We met and purchased this from a wonderful couple T and K and had a great time with them, and T gave Len a thorough understanding of all it's features and gadgets.  I am not sure everything was retained, but there is lots of time for review (I think they just drank beer and laughed.  I am not sure how many notes were taken).

Do you "name" your vehicles?  When I was a kid growing up, we always had a name for our vehicles, and people often asked, "so what do you call her."   Over the years we ourselves have not always named a vehicle we have owned, but in celebration of the blissfulness of the open road, not to mention the cheshire grins on our faces, and after discussing other possibilities we decided to call her the "MERRYACHT."

Yup, that's right the "MERRYACHT,"  because we love the Marriott Hotel, and she makes us merry, and she's the size of a yacht (okay not a true yacht, but it's big like a yacht to us), so hence her name.

Drum roll...please... introducing the "Merryacht,"  she's a 2000 Dutch Star Class A Diesel pusher Motor-home by Newmar.  Features all kinds of bells and whistles along with 2 pull outs (living room and bed room), oak flooring, oak cabinets, full basement storage area and we are thrilled and can't wait to make it ours.

Our journey back home was uneventful, as in, all went well.  WOW our Merryacht is big.

Driver (Len) got the A/C worked so well when we stopped at a Casino and parked for the night with the assistance of another R'v'er we'd met, that when we woke up, it was 50 degrees in the MH, oh crap. We were freezing in California, which doesn't even sound right.  Freezing in California, this can't be right.   At one stage I was sure I had icicles in my hair.  Yikes, help batman, it's cold.  We now have the A/C figured out and have 2 zones.  Thank goodness for manuals and helpful people who have experience with motor homes.

Wow T  has them all organized and we have lots and lots of reading to do.  But for now we just need to get home safely with our new baby.  They'll be plenty of time for reading and getting to know all the features of our motor-home when we get home.

Parking - who would have thunk'd it.  It's just not that simple - Da!  We almost got in trouble pulling into a parking lot when we decided to stop and get coffee while on the road.  Okay we won't do that again without first scanning the entrance and exit areas.  At this particular location getting in was easy, but getting out was a quick panic situation.  Thank goodness the hotel in the parking lot had a very high/very tall roof over it's entrance, which enabled us to drive underneath it.  Okay this was scary with what felt like only inches to spare.  If anyone was watching, I am sure we can all imagine what they thought of us.  Another lesson learned ;one of a few we learnt on the way home.

We brought a journal that I had won as a door prize (which I have now made a quilted cover for)  and thought we'd write down any questions we might have and/or notes relating to our MH when we bought it.  This was the specific reason for bringing it with us..but.... there is always the ...but part....

...when we met T &  K, we got so caught up in talking and visiting with these wonderful folks, not to mention the awesomeness, cleanliness and condition of the MH, that we did not take any notes.  We completely forgot about it. We also left much later than we originally planned. As new-bee's we wanted to be parked for our first night early so we could relax...this was not to be, left late arrived late.

We did start to use our Adventure Journal on the way home;making note of the crazy things that happened to us, people we met along the way, our "oops" (mishaps) too.  I figure it will help with the old memory too! Okay there I said it.  The reality is when I need to remember something new, I always tell Len, I will lose something old. My memory bank has reached it's maximum capacity, something has to give.  Okay again, I really did say this didn't I.  I'll speak for myself on this topic only.

We feel we have already started creating our own memories and laughs, along with the Do's and Don't of R'ving.

Our new friends T&K checked with us along the trip home to make sure we were okay, and everything was working correctly etc.  We really appreciated this, and do feel we are very fortunate to have met such great people, and we look forward to keeping in touch with them forever.  PS: and K makes a great "Dirty Martini" too!

It took us 4 days to get home (we were in no hurry, just wanted to take our time, and be safe driving our yacht), but we made it.  Safe and sound, all of us!

Memories and laughs, good times and air conditioning, Life is good.

We look forward to planning our next adventure on the road.

The meanderings of life on the road.
